ADRA's HIV and AIDS Projects

World AIDS Day brings together the worldwide community to raise awareness of AIDS and to encourage people to get involved in the global effort to stop AIDS. ADRA Australia is working around the world, giving teens and adults the information they need to protect themselves from the disease and providing compassionate care and support to those affected or infected by HIV.

Vietnam: Cao Bang Confidential Hotline and Internet Counselling Service

In Vietnam, the growth of market economies in the 1990's has been accompanied by increase in drug use, commercial sex and associated prevalence of HIV and AIDS. The limited access to education and the early adolescent experimentation with drugs and sexual behaviours also increases the risk of HIV infections. ADRA is addressing the need for information about adolescent development, substance abuse and skills for healthy lifestyle through the provision of a confidential hotline, internet counselling and regional health workers.

Papua New Guinea: Family Support and Community Information Centre

PNG has the highest incidence of HIV in the Pacific region. It is estimated that it accounts for 90% all HIV infections in the Oceania region. In recognition of the threat that HIV poses, ADRA Australia is running a family support and community information centre that addresses issues of prevention, care and treatment of HIV. With your help ADRA can expand the provision of HIV and family counselling to a larger number of people that do not have access to health services provided by local hospitals. *AusAID, 2007

Your support is needed to help continue the work that ADRA Australia is doing in these communities!
