Anti-Poverty Week

              
Half the world- nearly three billion people - live on less than two dollars a day.

Statistics like this are shocking, and sometimes seem so overwhelming; you feel there is nothing you can do.

But there is! You can make the choice and take action TODAY to help fight poverty.

Starting on Sunday 14th October, people all over Australia will be taking part in the Anti-Poverty Week campaign to raise awareness of the causes and consequences of poverty and to encourage action to address these problems. You too can get involved by organising your own event or by joining one of the Anti Poverty Week events.You can choose to participate in making the World's Biggest Banner, which will be unfurled in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra during Anti-Poverty Week.

ADRA Australia and Make Poverty History have prepared some resources to help you promote the Anti-Poverty Week in your church. The resources include:

Poster
You can put up the Anti-Poverty Week posters around your school, church or community centre to encourage people to learn about and get involved in Anti-Poverty Week.

Bulletin Insert
Print this A5 flyer and insert in your church bulletin or distribute at your church, school or community centre.

Bulletin Announcement
Include this bulletin announcements in your October 13th and October 20th bulletin to encourage your church members to participate in Anti-Poverty Week.

Children's Sabbath School Leader's Guide
Use this Children's Sabbath School Guide in your kindy, primary and junior Sabbath school classes to show the children what the Bible says about helping the poor.

Children's Activity Page
Supplement your Children's Sabbath School class with this word scramble activity based on the Children's Sabbath School lesson.

Show this great resource at your church. This presentation explains the issues of poverty around the world, and what churches can do to address these issues.

Other Ways to Take Action:

Participate in offering of letters- This resource from last year is still relevant and can be utilised to advocate for the poor.
