![]() Looking for refuge and safety, approximately 15,000 people fled to the open spaces of the campus of the Haiti Adventist University and Adventist Hospital of Haiti. The UN has given ADRA responsibility for this internally displaced persons (IDP) camp. ADRA is providing comprehensive response activities, including food, water and medical aid, for this camp and surrounding neighbourhoods. |
![]() Crucial to the response efforts: ADRA's emergency response team in Haiti, including specialised personnel from abroad, coordinate the distribution of urgent supplies, organise workers and volunteers, manage communication needs and liaise with the UN and other responding agencies, among other activities. |
![]() ADRA Australia immediately joined the response efforts, providing much-needed funds for the ongoing relief and reconstruction efforts. With THANKS to very generous supporters in Australia--YOU!-- ADRA Australia will provide the following response activities:
|
![]() Thanks to you, ADRA Australia is providing 2 mobile medical clinics, just like this. These will be equipped with emergency medical equipment and primary health supplies. They come with a generator and repair kit. (picture: Zumro, Inc, 2010)
|
![]() ADRA Australia is also funding 15 classrooms just like these, including equipment and supplies. Other ADRA offices will fund an additional 15 classrooms, making a total of 30. School kits will also be provided for children, which will include pens, pencils and notebooks. (picture: Shelter Systems, 2010)
|
![]() ADRA's classrooms will mean that Haitian children just like these can return to school and a more normal way of life, which is a vital step in helping children recover from the trauma of such a devastating event. |
![]() Good sanitation is crucial, especially when people are living in basic conditions in close proximity to each other. ADRA Australia will provide 50 shower wash stations to help internally displaced people (IDP) maintain good hygiene. Thank you for your support! |
![]() ADRA Australia will also provide 15 solid waste disposal areas for the appropriate handling of garbage. Sanitation interventions like these encourage and maintain hygienic conditions and reduce the spread of disease. |
![]() In addition to the activities provided by ADRA Australia, the international ADRA network will also continue to provide vital water supplies and Trekker water purification units (see story); hygiene kits with items such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo and toilet paper; and 400 latrines, 50 hand wash stations and 15 laundry stations in emergency camps. ADRA will also provide vital health and hygiene education; continue the distribution of World Food Program food supplies; provide shelter; and distribute essential household items such as blankets, tarps, cooking utensils, mattress pads, tools and mosquito nets. |
![]() Thank You! Your support has helped make this response in Haiti possible. |
