ADRA has partnered with the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Melbourne City to run this program. The church community gathers and distributes seasonally appropriate items to support people in Melbourne’s CBD who are experiencing homelessness. These items will be personally distributed on a monthly basis by the members of Melbourne City Adventist Church. As well as meeting their immediate needs, through these regular interactions, church members seek to listen and provide a sense of community and care. As the members understand more about their needs, they are able to identify additional ways they can provide support or connect them with relevant services.
Homelessness is a complex issue. By focusing on practical items to respond to a person’s immediate needs, they can begin conversations that they hope, over time, will have a greater positive impact on their lives. The team approaches each individual with open minds and open hearts as they seek to better understand and support the needs of homeless people within Melbourne’s CBD.
