ADRA is working with our team in Ukraine to provide urgent humanitarian aid including water, food, shelter, blankets and clothing. We are also working with our ADRA teams in surrounding countries, including Poland, Romania and Hungary, as they respond to the needs of incoming refugees. According to UNHCR, there are already 2 million displaced people due to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. You can find out more details of our response here.
QLD/NSW Flood Response
After record-breaking rain swept across much of New South Wales and Queensland, ADRA teams have been on the ground, helping affected communities clean up as well as providing essential goods including food, water, financial assistance and, where needed, emergency accommodation.
There is still a long road ahead and affected communities need our help. The next stage in ADRA’s response will include supporting mental health and wellbeing. You can find out more details of our response here.
On January 15, an underground volcano near the island nation of Tonga erupted, triggering a tsunami and significant ash pollution. The eruption is estimated to have exerted a force equivalent to 1,000 Hiroshima nuclear bombs. Communication with the rest of the world was cut, but ADRA has since been able to establish communication with our partners on the ground.
Over 80% of the Tongan population has been affected. The greatest concern is a lack of safe drinking water and food, which has been contaminated with volcanic ash or washed away by the tsunami. At least two islands are being evacuated.
ADRA is working with the Tongan Seventh-day Adventist network on the ground to respond. ADRA is providing immediate cash grants to vulnerable families so they can meet their most urgent needs, whether that is access to clean water, shelter, or food. And, your donation today will also support long-term recovery efforts through agricultural support.
In 2021, drought, conflict, high inflation and COVID-19 have gripped the already struggling country forcing even more people to become displaced and hungry. Today, one in three Afghans are experiencing crisis levels of food insecurity. And, with the upcoming winter, these numbers are only expected to rise.
ADRA is helping provide internally displaced people with food and heating so they can survive the Afghan winter.
ADRA has been responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in multiple countries across Asia and the Pacific. As well as equipping existing projects with the support they need, ADRA has also responded in an emergency capacity to surges in countries including India, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji. Our response includes providing critical oxygen resources to hospitals, supporting local clinic staff, promoting preventive measures, providing vital personal protective equipment like masks to frontline medical staff, and providing food and financial assistance. Your donation today will help to ensure we can protect the most vulnerable countries in their response to the pandemic.
Deadly disasters often strike without warning.
With a strong global presence in over 100 countries, ADRA is well-placed to help in times of need. When people need us, we’re already there.
Your gift to our Disaster Relief Fund helps us provide immediate disaster relief when disasters, like those listed above, strike. Your gift also helps to provide long-term recovery and disaster risk reduction activities in the aftermath.
