On September 28, a huge tsunami smashed the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, triggered by a massive 7.5 magnitude earthquake. More than 2000 people died, while thousands of others were missing and injured. The devastation for those who survived is immense and it will take families years to recover their livelihoods.
ADRA is well-placed to help, with an Emergency Response Team deployed and initiating the response. Shelter kits – which include tarpaulins, ropes, poles, nails, hammers and hand saws – have been distributed. This temporary measure is vital to help 3300 families with somewhere dry to sleep. The second phase is providing fresh, clean water for people to drink. ADRA received funding from the Australian government through CANDO to assist this response.
Your generous donations so far have enabled all this. Thank you. This direct appeal how now ended, but any further donations received will contribute to other disaster relief work around the world.
