In the rugged mountains of Myanmar, the Poverty Reduction Initiative through Community Empowerment (PRICE) project is improving the food security and income sources of more than 4000 people in 10 of Myanmar’s poorest communities. In remote Chin State, 70 per cent of the population live below the poverty line, with malnutrition and child mortality rates the highest in the country. ADRA is providing literacy, numeracy and business training along with agricultural and technical skills to improve household nutrition and income sources. Savings and loans groups are also helping to build community bonds to ensure their journey out of poverty continues.
One in three Burmese people live below the poverty line.
Chin State Myanmar experiences a rat infestation every 50 years that has a massive impact on access to food.
