The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is the official humanitarian agency of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
ADRA Australia works as part of the global ADRA network. Through this network, our reach extends into more than 140 countries. We exist to restore relationships so that people thrive in a world created by God and flourish as God intended. We work to inspire and collaborate with others to responsibly facilitate transformational development and relief projects overseas and in Australia.
A world without poverty. An agency of excellence.
A church making a difference.
Working with people in poverty and distress to create just and positive change through empowering partnerships and responsible action.
Ingenuity- we find creative solutions for complex problems.
Resourcefulness- we leverage resources to get the job done.
Responsibility- we always give our best in service.
Integrity- we don’t compromise on our values.
ADRA Australia’s board is accountable for the achievement of our purpose as outlined in our constitution.
That being, to reduce poverty by serving people and communities in need, by the provision of humanitarian, development and relief aid and assistance in Australia and overseas without regard to ethnic, political, racial or religion association or qualification.
With the exception of four ex-officio members (which are selected from specified leadership positions within the Seventh-day Adventist Church), Board members provide their services on a voluntary basis.
Experience represented on the ADRA Board includes international development, community and emergency management, administration, finance, legal, research and marketing.
ADRA is people – staff, volunteers, supporter and project participants working together to make a amazing things happen.
Our highly experience leadership team work with 25 staff to design, monitor and implement transformational projects that help people thrive. None of this would be possible without the more than 5,000 volunteers and thousands of others who partner with us. You can read more about our people in our Annual Report.
Join with us in restoring communities by working with us, volunteering your time or joining a supporter circle.
We believe that the world was created in perfect beauty and that life was designed to be lived ‘to the full’.
We believe that amazing things happen when people work together in truth and love to build a better future that they may never personally benefit from.
We believe every person on this earth was created in the image of God to do amazing things. By working together with the church across the globe, we help people to be the hands and feet of Jesus, to take collaborative, creative action for a better world. We journey with others in submission to Christ to restore life, beauty and goodness so that we may bring glory to God.
What percentage of my donation does ADRA keep?
ADRA Australia does not take any commission from donations. All donations are used for program support and additional fundraising, with the actual % allocation remaining within a range approved by the Board and published in our annual report. In the 2018 financial year we allocated 6% of our expenditure to the essential administration, accountability and compliance aspects of program support, which include activities such as fraud prevention and child protection. We allocated an additional 4% of our expenditure to raising funds from the public and the Australian government. These percentages do not represent a deduction or commission from donations, they are simply a presentation of the actual costs of carrying out the work that we do.
What does ADRA do?
We inspire and collaborate with others to responsibly facilitate transformational development and relief projects overseas and in Australia. We seek to address not only the symptoms of poverty, but the systems and structures that cause it.
Where Does ADRA Work?
We implement transformational development and relief projects both in Australia and overseas. We work across all states and territories of Australia thanks to the support of thousands of ADRA volunteers. Overseas, we work with partner ADRA offices that have an established presence and official recognition in their countries. Currently, ADRA Australia partners with ADRA offices in: Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Timor Leste, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Philippines, Vietnam, Mongolia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi. During times of disaster we work through the global ADRA network to respond in countries in which ADRA has an office, but with whom we do not have a standing partnership.
