FAQ

Can I volunteer with ADRA?
Yes – thousands of people support our work in their local communities every year by volunteering with ADRA. Without their support, ADRA would not be able to reach or impact even a fraction of the people we currently support – and we’re always looking for more! Volunteers serve in a wide variety of roles including collecting funds for the annual ADRA Appeal, staffing Op Shops, distributing emergency relief food parcels, advocating for social change, providing administrative support, and specialist project implementation support. Teams of volunteers have also raised much needed funds and travelled overseas to help implement projects in developing countries as part of our ADRA Connections program. Internships and paid positions with ADRA are also available on occasion.

Who is ADRA Australia?
The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is the only official humanitarian agency of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. ADRA Australia works as part of the global ADRA network. Through this network, our reach extends into more than 140 countries. We work collaboratively with others to facilitate development and relief projects overseas and in Australia.
-
What percentage of my donation does ADRA keep?
Admin costs are necessary for organisations like ADRA to ensure good quality projects. However, we also know that our donors want to see as much of their donations go towards our projects.
All donations are used for program support and additional fundraising, with the actual % allocation remaining within a range approved by the Board and published in our annual report. To see the most current breakdown of our admin ratio, please view our latest annual reporthere. -
What does ADRA do?
We seek to address not only the symptoms of poverty, but the systems and structures that cause it. We do this by working with people in poverty and distress so that everyone may experience the quality of life that God intended for us. Our work is focused into four key areas: Improving health; creating access to education; increasing livelihoods; and responding to disasters. -
Where does ADRA work?
We implement transformational development and relief projects both in Australia and overseas. We work across all states and territories of Australia thanks to the support of thousands of ADRA volunteers. Overseas, we work with partner ADRA offices that have an established presence and official recognition in their countries. Currently, ADRA Australia partners with ADRA offices in: Cambodia, Fiji, Kenya, Lebanon, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Vanuatu, Zambia and Zimbabwe. During times of disaster we work through the global ADRA network to respond in countries in which ADRA has an office, but with whom we do not have a standing partnership.
