ADRA Community Care Centre – Russell Island
Donate NowADRA Russell Island is supporting those in the Bay Island region who are in need of support through food hampers. In addition to providing low-cost groceries, ADRA Russell Island also runs a weekly breakfast club for the Russell Island State School.
The impact at the school is significant. The teachers say that a number of students are coming hungry. Some students are too embarrassed to come for breakfast, so the principal has food in their office for students to come in privately.
During COVID-19, the impact was significant. Many couldn’t get food and were not able to pick up. So, ADRA Russell Island delivered to their homes. Between 30-40 food parcels were packed and distributed to those in need, demonstrating the need in the Bay Islands region.
Stories
One volunteer, Gary* was a regular client at the ADRA Russell Community Pantry. One day, he saw the team unloading the stock from the transit van and offered to help.
Now, Gary has been volunteering with ADRA for the past year and is making a positive contribution to his community.
Gary is one of several volunteers who were originally clients and are now giving back to their community a positive cycle of well-being. Many are local to the Bay Islands and are able to provide valuable insight into the needs of the community
