Nyalgunga Women’s Empowerment Project Kenya
Donate NowKenya
Located in rural Kenya, ADRA is working with the local staff of the Nyalgunga Women’s Empowerment Project to improve the livelihoods of women and children who have been affected as a result of HIV/AIDS.
Since 2004, the group has established small businesses and experimented with new farming practices. Currently, the group operates the Pam Clifford Academy, a small pre-school that provides quality education and preparation for primary school. The project has secured land for farming and a new preschool that meets government standards. Work has begun to prepare the land and to begin the construction of the preschool.
On an individual level, the project will empower members to develop a self-help group to: strengthen their governance; enhance income through entrepreneurship support; and access Village Savings and Loans schemes.
Increasing Livelihood Opportunities – How is ADRA helping?
Kenya is one of many countries where ADRA is helping to improve income opportunities for families and individuals, helping to lift them out of poverty.
We have ongoing livelihood projects that have been developed in collaboration with trusted partners and communities to build more sustainable lives which in turn creates food security and keeps children in school. Examples of ADRA livelihoods project activities include:
– Training on effective planting and harvesting techniques
– Animal rearing training
– Business opportunities for people with disabilities
– Educating farmers on the safe use of pesticides
– Introducing new seed varieties and climate-resilient crops
– Increased access to markets
– Village savings and loans associations, Women’s Self-Help group
– Improved diet and nutrition from new crops
